Home Federal sweeps North Platte

NORTH PLATTE — Home Federal used complete-game shutouts by Ryan Melvin and Trevor Johnson to sweep a Cornhusker League doubleheader against North Platte 2-0 and 8-0 Wednesday.

“Ryan and Trevor had complete-game shutouts and we had nine hits in the second game,” Home Federal coach Jake Ritzdorf said. “It was a pretty good all-around doubleheader. We’re excited for our home tournament this weekend.”

In the opener, Melvin only gave up two hits while striking out eight and walking two. Home Federal also only had two hits, but two first-inning runs stood up.

Blake Leiting had one hit, a run and an RBI.

The offense picked up in the second game, which ended after the fifth inning via the mercy rule. Javier Cruz was 3 for 3 with two runs while Melvin went 2 for 3 with four RBIs and a run.

Johnson scattered six hits while striking out six and not allowing a walk.

Home Federal begins play in its home tournament Friday at 7:30 p.m. against Bellevue East.

Five Points splits against North Platte

The Five Points Bank juniors split a Cornhusker League home doubleheader Wednesday against North Platte at Ryder Park.

In the opener, North Platte exploded for seven runs in the second inning and went on to roll to an 11-1 victory in five innings.

Five Points only managed one run despite having eight hits. Ryan Williams and Brady Baasch both had two hits.

Losing pitcher Jaden Jurgensmier allowed seven runs on eight hits with three strikeouts and a walk in 1 2/3 innings.

Five Points rebounded by scoring two runs in the fifth inning to break a 4-all tie and win the second game 8-5.

Jake Zeckser went 3 for 4 with an RBI while Cole Bauer and Jacob Nesvara both had two hits. Sam Hartman hit a two-run home run in the fourth inning.

Brayden Wenzl picked up the win in relief, allowing no runs and no hits over 2 1/3 innings. He struck out two and walked two.

PWG tops Dinsdale Automotive

PALMER — Palmer-Wolbach-Greeley scored twice in the second inning en route to a 3-1 victory over Tom Dinsdale Automotive on Wednesday.

PWG limited Dinsdale Auto to four hits. Gage Brockmeier took the loss, allowing three runs (none earned) on seven hits with three strikeouts and a walk.
