Ryan Nietfeldt is in contention again at the Dinsdale Auto Amateur Classic at Riverside Golf Club.

Nietfeldt, who won the tournament back in 1993, is tied for the lead with A.J. Nolin and Aurora’s Caleb Badura at 71 going into the final round Sunday at Riverside.

“It was up and down,” Nietfeldt said of his round. “I didn’t hit the ball very well off the tee, but I managed the game pretty well. I had three birdies, two bogeys. I hit a lot of good iron shots. When I was in trouble I tried to make good decisions and play conservatively.

“It was kind of tough out there because the greens were kind of firm. It played really fast. The course was really difficult today.”

Glen Bills, Mitch Oswald and Cade McCallum are all just one stroke back at 72. Wes Bernt and defending champion Luke Kluver , who just won his third straight Class A state golf title at Norfolk High School, are at 73. Ryan Knispel, Jake Kluver and Northwest High School golfer Marcus Eriksen are at 74 and Jayson Brueggemann 75.

Dylan Heng, who won the tournament title in 2013, shot 77. Dave Clouse , the 1999 winner, shot 80.

Nietfeldt said one of his three birdies came on the redesigned ninth hole that now has two bunkers around it and a two-tiered green.

“I got lucky,” Nietfeldt said. “I pulled my tee shot but I was able to get it over a tree and I hit it to within about six feet and made my putt there so I was happy about that. I’d never played the hole since they redid it.”

Nietfeldt will be playing in the final group on Sunday. His son Tyler, 12, will be helping out as well.

“It will be fun,” he said. “My son is going to do the leaderboard so it will be fun to be out there with him. Just go have some fun and hit some shots.

“Obviously I know the course so it’s just a matter of managing some nervs, trying to hit good shots and keep in a good mental state.”

Tyler’s presence just adds to it for Ryan Nietfeldt.

“That’probably what I’m looking forward to the most,” he said.
