Two articles on education appeared in the Independent on May 31. Our education system in America came off the tracks years ago. When you plant a new young twig, you attach supports to it to keep it growing straight, if not it grows crooked and whichever way the wind blows it.

The same is true for kids! If you don’t support them with training at home, the church and school, they get bent in the wrong direction.

God told us foolishness is bound up in the heart of a child. They must be taught to know and understand right from wrong and good from evil. Unless you get rid of the foolishness, kids grow up to be rebellious, murderers, thieves and thugs.

Wisdom is intended to be passed on from one generation to the next. Where do we find wisdom? The fear of the Lord God is the beginning of wisdom. America was doing great until 1837 when Horace Mann, who opposed the authority of the Bible, thought it deplorable that education was in the hands of the Christian church. Next John Dewey came along with “progressive public education,” saying Christianity was the problem with education.

In the early 1800s John Adams said finding an illiterate man was as rare as a comet. Secular education has led to a sharp increase in illiteracy. We’ve gotten rid of religion, then morality and now education!

In 1983 the Department of Education was commissioned to do a study on excellence in education. It was called “A nation at risk.” When finished they stated, “If an unfriendly foreign power had attempted to impose on America the mediocre education performance that exists today we would have viewed it as an act of war.” America has committed educational disarmament.

Think things have improved? America’s been dumbing down our kids for years. They say ignorance can be fixed but stupid is forever.
