‘Stan’ Mengers

Stanley Neil “Stan” Mengers, 76, of Grand Island passed away on Monday, June 3, 2019.

Memorial service and celebration of Stan’s life will be at 1 p.m. Monday at All Faiths Funeral Home. Dan Naranjo will officiate.

A gathering of family and friends will be from noon until service time. Burial of ashes will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.

Stan was born Nov. 23, 1942, in Phillips County, Kan., to Vaughan and Anna (Ruhl) Mengers. He attended Naponee High School and Kearney State College. After college Stan trucked for Mengers Trucking.

On Dec. 30, 1982, Stan married Joanne Peacock in the Grand Island Trinity United Methodist Church. Over the years, he worked for Missouri Valley Construction and then for Western Engineering Construction Company for 25 years. He was currently employed by Gary Smith Construction. He had various jobs during the winter months, including driving a tour bus for Good Life Tour Coach and driving cars for various car dealers.

Stan was a member of Eagles Club 378 of Grand Island, Tehama Temple of Hastings, Shriners Scottish Rights, and Trinity United Methodist Church of Grand Island.

Stan loved spending time with his dogs and they went everywhere together. He also kept the neighborhood strays well fed. He enjoyed gardening and browsing at Goodwill or rummage sales.

Survivors include a sister, Sharon “Mengers” (Nis) Bennetzen of Grand Island; stepdaughters, Ronda (Daron) Talsma of Marquette, Mich., and their daughter, Aspen, and Robin Parsons of Grand Island and her children, Sheena and Justin Parsons; two great-granddaughters, Donna Marie Sinner and Kallie Parsons; five nephews, Brian (Jody) Bennetzen of Lincoln and their sons, Jacob and Samuel, Brad Bennetzen, Barton (Annie) Bennetzen and daughter, Emily, Bob Bennetzen, and Brandon Bennetzen, all of Grand Island; an uncle, George Ruhl of Spokane, Wash.; a host of cousins in Nebraska, Washington, Oregon and Nevada; and his two faithful, four-legged buddies, Rocky and Winky.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 33 years, Joanne; a son-in-law, Steve Parsons; a niece, Bridget Faith; and many uncles, aunts and cousins.

Memorials are suggested to Central Nebraska Humane Society.
