ALDA — Douglas A. Denman, 71, of Alda passed away after a day’s work was done on Monday, July 1, 2019.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, July 9, at All Faiths Funeral Home. The Rev. Trudy Hanke and Dan Naranjo will officiate. Burial to follow at Cameron Cemetery with military honors.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday, July 8, at All Faiths Funeral Home in Grand Island.
Douglas was born on July 8, 1947, in Grand Island, son of Alvin and Josephine (Klinkicek) Denman.
He graduated from Wood River High School in 1965. He was united in marriage to Marilyn Bonsack on July 14, 1968. Shortly after their marriage, Douglas served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Conflict when the 295th Reserve Unit was called to duty.
Douglas was born and raised to love the land that he and generations of his family had cared for. His lifelong passion and years of farming knowledge made him the person many of his friends turned to for advice.
When Douglas wasn’t tending to the land, he enjoyed his other hobbies, horse races at Fonner Park and card games.
As a former high school athlete, Douglas supported the sporting events of his son and the children and grandchildren of his friends.
The only thing in Douglas’s eyes that was more important than the day’s chores was his family. Any chance to spend time with his granddaughters took priority. Doug’s legacy of hard work and genuine love and care for his fellow man will be treasured by all of his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Marilyn of Alda; son, Philip (Meshka) Denman of Grand Island; granddaughters, Natalya, Addalyne, and Braelynn; brother, Danny (Cathy) Denman of Grand Island; sister, Dianna Nielsen of Lincoln; along with nieces, nephews and friends.
Douglas was preceded in death by his parents.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the family. They will be designated at a later date.
