Betty Buddecke, 91, of Grand Island died Thursday, July 4, 2019, at Primrose in Grand Island.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 9, at Messiah Lutheran Church with the Rev. James Fruehling officiating. Burial will be in the Doniphan Cedar View Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Apfel Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to the church or the family for later designation. Online condolences may be directed to www.apfelfuneralhome.com.
Betty was born on Nov. 18, 1927, in Herman, to Joseph and Esther (Moffitt) King. She grew up in the Tekamah area and attended Evergreen School District #70. In 1947, she graduated from Tekamah High School. Betty moved to Grand Island to attend business school. She also worked at Nielson/Peterson Trucking and wrote commercials for KMMJ Radio.
On Sept. 1, 1957, Betty was united in marriage to Merton Buddecke at Messiah Lutheran Church in Grand Island. Betty worked at Credit Bureau of Grand Island, Commercial National Bank, and Equitable Bank until she retired.
Betty was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church and had served as a Sunday school teacher. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, cross-stitching, and volunteering at schools to read books to first-graders. She also loved attending her grandchildren’s activities.
Survivors include children, Monte Buddecke of Kearney, Colleen (John) Schroeder of Grand Island, Lisa (Jeff) Needham, Bellevue; grandchildren, Taylor and Morgan Buddecke, Nicole and Michaela Schroeder, and Sean and Ryan Needham; and many nieces and nephews.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Merton, in 1994; three brothers; and four sisters.
