KEARNEY — A third store — Five Below — will open Friday in Kearney’s former Kmart building at 4700 Second Ave., but the opening of Ross Dress for Less in the same 80,000-square-foot building appears to be a long way off.
Employees of Five Below have been working days and nights preparing for Friday’s grand opening.
The store, part of the chain headquartered in Philadelphia, Pa., is similar to Dollar General stores because its merchandise sells for $5 and less.
Although the Five Below store is set to join two others already doing business in the former Kmart location — Marshalls and PetSmart — the space being prepared for Ross Dress for Less is vacant, with some drywall in place on the walls, but with bare metal studs on a partition near the back of the store.
Marhsalls and PetSmart opened in 2018 at the former Kmart, which now is owned by Seritage Growth Properties of New York City.
