UPDATE: An Engleman Elementary School staff member will not be charged following an investigation into allegations of inappropriate behavior.

According to a Grand Island Police Department press release, the department said it has completed its investigation and has determined it “does not meet the threshold to constitute a criminal violation.” Subsequently, GIPD said, no charges will be filed in reference to the allegations.

Despite the staff member not being charged, Grand Island Public Schools said in a statement that the staff member will remain on administrative leave pending a district investigation into whether the staff member violated district policies and/or district conduct expectations.

GIPS added it will release more information upon the completion of its investigation.

“We would once again like to thank the students who reported their concerns,” the district said in its statement. “We encourage any student who feels something inappropriate is happening to report it to an adult. We also appreciate the Engleman staff who followed district reporting protocols in place to keep students safe.”

GRAND ISLAND – According to a press release, the Grand Island Police Department will not be filing charges stemming from their investigation into allegations of inappropriate behavior by an employee.

The Grand Island Police Department has completed our investigation in reference to the alleged inappropriate behavior of a staff member at Engleman Elementary School reported to us on 3/4/19.

Based on the known facts in this case, the Grand Island Police Department has made the determination the investigation does not meet the threshold to constitute a criminal violation. For this reason, no charges are being pursued in reference to these allegations.

We understand the sensitive nature of this case, and appreciate the patience to allow a thorough investigation to run its course.

A statement from GIPS:

The Grand Island Police Department has concluded their investigation into reported inappropriate actions by an Engleman Elementary staff member and will not be filing criminal charges in the case. We thank the GIPD for their help in ensuring our kids are safe in our neighborhood schools.

Now that the GIPD has finished their work on the matter, GIPS will continue with our investigation. While the GIPD focused on whether criminal behavior occurred, our continuing investigation will focus on whether the staff member has violated district policies or GIPS expectations for conduct. The staff member will remain on administrative leave until we conclude our work. We will make further announcements upon the completion of our district investigation.

We would once again like to thank the students who reported their concerns. We encourage any student who feels something inappropriate is happening to report it to an adult. We also appreciate the Engleman staff who followed district reporting protocols in place to keep students safe.
