The Central Nebraska Regional Airport has received a U.S. Department of Transportation discretionary grant.

Sen. Deb Fischer’s office announced in a press release Monday that the airport has received a $2.17 million grant to assist in the construction of its aircraft rescue and fire fighting building.

The airport was one of four airports in the state to receive a discretionary grant from the Department of Transportation. Other airports receiving grants were Eppley Airfeld, McCook Regional Airport and Norfolk Regional Airport.

“Our airports in Nebraska help ensure that families can travel safely and businesses can deliver their high-quality products to market,” Fischer said. “I’m happy to announce these grants are headed to Eppley Airfield and to regional airports in McCook, Grand Island and Norfolk. These continued investments in our state’s infrastructure provide for major improvements and will make a big difference in our state’s future.”
