After an incident began in the parking lot of Midwest Express early this morning, Grand Island police arrested a man who fled on foot and was tasered because of his failure to cooperate.
Police say Karlos Chavez was arrested after allegedly damaging several vehicles in the parking lot of the business, which is at 2110 E. Highway 30.
Shortly after midnight, police responded to the report of a male, wearing a black hoodie, who was attempting to get into a white pickup.
A male matching that description was contacted while in a white Ford F-150, police say. The man exited the pickup, failed to comply with verbal commands and took off. The man was detained after being tasered and identified as Chavez.
He was arrested for attempted theft by unlawful taking totaling more than $5,000, attempted theft by unlawful taking totaling more than $1,500, three counts of attempted theft by unlawful taking valued at between $1,500 and $4,999, obstruction, possession of drug paraphernalia and five counts of criminal mischief involving varying amounts of damage.
