Mr. G’s has installed Grand Island’s first Express Car Wash at 623 S. Locust St.
Gary Jacobson and Lloyd Gunderson are owners of Mr. G’s. They closed the South Locust location in July to install the Express Car Wash system. The facility reopened in September.
Gunderson’s son, Tyler Gunderson, manages the facility.
The Express Car Wash concept offers the customer an affordable, quality exterior wash. Every car receives a spot-free rinse and bottom wash.
“We encourage every customer to take advantage of our new free vacuums,” Gunderson said.
There are eight new vacuums at the location.
The Express Car Wash is the only service now provided at Mr. G’s on South Locust. The Mr. G’s at 3005 Frontage Road is a full-service facility. That includes oil changes and custom vehicle detailing.
The facility incorporated as Mr. G’s in 1979 on South Locust.
After the tornadoes hit Grand Island in 1980, they saw a need to expand their car wash business. Their expansion allowed them to become the community’s first full-service car wash.
As business grew, Mr. G’s opened the Frontage Road car wash about 10 years ago.
“When we introduced full-service car wash it was brand new and we had the skill set to do it,” Gunderson said. “The Express Car Washing is a new concept in washing cars that is sweeping the nation.”
Gunderson said the South Locust location was a perfect home for the new service.
“We have plenty of room and we don’t push our cars out onto the street,” he said. “We had room for the vacuums. It’s a very relaxed buying experience.”
The Express Car Wash offers three types of washes. The basic car wash is $4 and vacuuming is free. There is no extra charge for oversized vehicles.
Since Mr. G’s reopened, customers are happy with the new facility, Gunderson said.
Every vehicle that goes through the Express Car Wash gets a “spot-free rinse and a bottom wash.” The $5 wash includes a cedar wax and the $6 wash gets a cedar wax and a rust-inhibitor wash.
“It’s very affordable and convenient,” Gunderson said.
They plan a new facade for Mr. G’s on South Locust next year. They are also going to redo the electronic sign.
Gunderson and Jacobson said that Mr. G’s Car Wash has a commitment to its guests’ satisfaction.
“We strive to provide the best car wash at an affordable price at both of our locations,” Gunderson said. “We pride ourselves on delivering a quality soft and gentle vehicle wash. We use the most up-to-date standards. We have top-of-the-line products, technology and training to produce the cleanest vehicle.”
Over the years, Grand Island Independent readers have named Mr. G’s “Best Car Wash in Grand Island” many times. It is open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.
