Someone removed information from a Florida woman’s debit card and, after programming that information onto a blank credit card, removed cash from an ATM in Grand Island.
The victim, Jennifer Cervantes, is still in possession of her card. She reported the fraudulent use of her debit card information to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office in Florida, which alerted Grand Island police. The crime took place in January.
Police Capt. Jim Duering said the use of reprogrammed cards is “the most common form of credit card fraud that we’ve been dealing with.” The forgery case remains open.
