HASTINGS — When Grand Island Central Catholic’s Riley Shoemaker scored on a 27-yard touchdown run with 6.9 seconds remaining in the first half to give the Crusaders a 6-2 lead, it appeared Adams Central might be on upset alert.
Instead, the Class C-1 No. 2-rated (Omaha World-Herald) Patriots responded by scoring 34 unanswered points while dominating the second half in a 36-6 victory over No. 8 Central Catholic on Friday night. The victory not only kept the Patriots (7-0) undefeated, but also clinched a district championship for veteran coach Bill Carlin’s squad.
