LINCOLN — Two weeks after becoming the first Nebraska team to top the 300-yard mark in both rushing and passing in a single game with a 645-yard total offense performance against South Dakota State, the No. 25-ranked Cornhuskers let their ground game do most of the work against Illinois.
I-back Ameer Abdullah was the chief beneficiary of NU’s plan of attack, rushing 20 times for a career-high 225 yards and two touchdowns as Nebraska finished with 335 yards on the ground. The junior’s rushing total was the highest by a Husker since Roy Helu Jr. rushed for a school-record 307 yards against Missouri in 2010.
