Oct. 19, 2007 -- Kearney 26, Grand Island 14

GRAND ISLAND -- Class A No. 1-rated Kearney capped off a 9-0 regular season against the Islanders (7-2), but it wasn't easy.

The Bearcats scored twice in the final 54 seconds of the first half to take a 20-7 lead, and 111 of their 293 yards of total offense came on two plays.

The Islanders turned the ball over four times but were in the game until Kearney added an 8-yard Rustin Dring score with 1:11 left in the game to go up by two scores.



Oct. 20, 2006 -- Kearney 24, Grand Island 6

KEARNEY -- No. 5 Kearney didn't surrender a score until there was 1:156 left in the game while dominating the Islanders.

Grand Island (5-4) managed one first down in the first half while falling behind 17-0.

Kearney, which would go on to win the Class A state championship, outgained G.I. 204-46 in the first half.



Sept. 2, 2005 -- Kearney 14, Grand Island 0

KEARNEY -- Both offenses struggled in the season opener, but Noah Rowe scored twice to allow No. 9 Kearney to knock off No. 7 Grand Island.

The Islanders totaled four first downs and 94 yards of total offense.

Rowe scored on a 40-yard run in the second quarter and added a 6-yard score with 4:41 left in the game.



Nov. 8, 2004 -- Kearney 26, Grand Island 0

KEARNEY -- Kearney (10-1) used two touchdowns in the final 37 seconds of the first half to pull away in a Class A state playoff quarterfinal.

The Bearcats scored on a 1-yard run by Noah Rowe with 37 seconds left in the second quarter to up the lead to 12-0.

The Islanders (7-4) fumbled the kickoff, and quarterback Jared Loschen ran up the middle for a 25-yard score with 23 seconds remaining.



Sept. 3, 2004 -- Kearney 24, Grand Island 3

GRAND ISLAND -- In the first of two meetings in the year, Kearney set the tone with a 16-play, 80-yard opening drive en route to the win.

The Bearcats rushed for 268 yard to control the teams' season opener.

Paul Pankoke's 36-yard field goal with 31 seconds left in the first quarter accounted for the Islanders' lone points.



Sept. 5, 2003 -- Kearney 29, Grand Island 19

KEARNEY -- Grand Island jumped out to a 19-0 lead in coach Jeff Tomlin's debut only to see Kearney come storming back in the fourth quarter.

Zach Fowler scored on two 1-yard runs and a 48-yard run in the fourth quarter to key the Bearcats' comeback.

Dayton Sanchez scored on runs of 15 and 73 yards for the Islanders.



Nov. 6, 2002 -- Kearney 27, Grand Island 14

KEARNEY -- Kearney avenged an earlier loss to Grand Island by outsting the Islanders in the first round of the Class A playoffs.

Running back Shane Siegel, GISH's single-season rushing record holder, gained 165 yards on 32 carries, but 80 of those yards came in the fourth quarter when Kearney held a 21-0 lead.

The Bearcats used big plays to take the lead, including a 44-yard TD run by Brett Bowers on their first possession of the game.



Sept. 6, 2002 -- Grand Island 38, Kearney 13

GRAND ISLAND -- Grand Island Senior High took advantage of seven Kearney turnovers to deliver an impressive win in the season opener.

Scott Siegel rushed for 126 yards and four touchdowns to lead the Islanders.

Kearney's duo of Dustin Beerman and Brett Bowers were held to a combined 122 yards.



Sept. 21, 2001 -- Kearney 42, Grand Island 7

KEARNEY -- Michael Allison took the opening kickoff back for a touchdown to set off Kearney's rout in the last mid-season meeting between the Tri-City rivals.

Brett Bowers added three touchdowns for the Bearcats (3-1), including an 83-yard run.

The Islanders played without running back Scott Siegel and lost lineman Kurt Mann in the second half because of injuries.



Oct. 26, 2000 -- Grand Island 7, Kearney 6

GRAND ISLAND -- Middle linebacker Kyle Hemje returned an interception 69 yards for the deciding score midway through the first quarter in the regular-season finale.

The Islanders (7-2) earned the win despite only managing four first downs over the first three quarters. They picked up six in the fourth.

Kearney (2-7) scored on a 31-yard pass from Jason Jones to Cody Freeze with 51 seconds left in the third quarter. But a low snap on the PAT attempt led to a forced pass, which fell incomplete.



Oct. 28, 1999 -- Kearney 28, Grand Island 21, OT

KEARNEY -- Grand Island Senior High's playoff hopes were dashed with the overtime loss.

Eric Perry conected with tight end Brad Palu for a 6-yard score in overtime to put the Bearcats (4-5) ahead, and they sealed the win by recovering a fumble on the Islanders' possession.

Dusty Stamer had 25 carries for 109 yards, including a 2-yard run which gave Grand Island (2-7) a 21-14 lead with 8:22 left.


Oct. 23, 1998-- Kearney 17, Grand Island 0

KEARNEY -- The Bearcats held G.I. to 32 yards rushing on 34 attempts while posting the shutout.

Kearney (5-3) had the Islanders (2-6) at negative rushing yards through three quarters and forced punts on nine of 13 possessions.  There were also three Islander turnovers.
