Islanders seventh at Lincoln Pius

LINCOLN -- Grand Island Senior High shot 436 to finish seventh in the 15-team Lincoln Pius X Shootout on Tuesday.

Hannah Huston led the Islanders with a 102.

Norfolk beat out Omaha Marian by two strokes to take the team title with a 374.

Papillion-LaVista's Melyssa Doerr took individual honors with an 82.

"It was really a miserable, rainy day in Lincoln," Islander coach Kelli Jeffries said. "That added to the high scores by everyone. It was one of those days that you're happy five kids finish the course."

Crusaders finish second at triangular

Led by freshman Danielle Lemek, Doniphan-Trumbull finished first at Grand Island Central Catholic's triangular Tuesday at Indianhead Golf Club.

Lemek shot a 37 over nine holes, 14 strokes better than GICC's Michaela Ostdiek. That helped the Cardinals post a 211 while the Crusaders finished with a 224. Gibbon came in third with a 303.

"Danielle Lemek golfed a great game at the Doniphan-Trumbull home course with a 1-over-par 37," GICC coach Dee Hanssen said. "The cold wind caused some high scores for the other area golfers."
