GRAND ISLAND —

The papers are full of all the wonderful benefits of having the fair in Grand Island, I hope people realize you can make figures come out any way the person running the test wants them to.  If the mayor and council would come out and talk to the people like they do when they are running for office they would hear the average person does not want the expense of the fair on the city.

We would like to see more police and firemen hired, all the problems of water and sewer  and streets at least looked at. Every time you go to the store everything is a little higher. There have been runs on banks in some parts of the country, people are being laid off everyday, gas is at a all time high and we know it will not go down. People with families are worried that they may not be able to care for them and older people wonder if their retirement will stretch for the coming years.

We read in the paper where the city wonders how to meet the budget, and the reserve money is gone. It is so easy for people in office to spend, spend the money. Do they take care of their own finances in this way? The one thing that most people are talking about is the money has been spent and now they are talking of raising property taxes and that will be one more big expense put on OUR shoulders.

If this is going to be such a wind fall let the Mayor, Fonner Park, Mr. Anderson with his race track in Hastings, and the other big backers in Grand Island pay for it, build the buildings and pay all the hidden expenses and if there is a large profit they can have it.
