The Nebraska Legislature's knickers are starting to bunch because Sen. Annette Dubas wants a satellite office again in Grand Island during the interim.
Concerning the war in Iraq, columnist Brian Bresnahan (April 19) sees nearly everybody, including Sen. Ben Nelson, as being in bed with the liberal benders. Well, there are a lot of us liberal benders under this bed, asking this question: "How do you keep on fighting when you're losing and can't possibly win?"
The new board has already determined that to get the most mileage out of the $80,000 or so in available funding, a change of direction must be taken to reign in the number of projects and promotional events undertaken over the past few years and instead concentrate attention on beautification and sensible, economically achievable goals to improve downtown.
We need to say 'Whoa!' to this runaway State Fair Project! I'll bet Lincoln and the University don't want us to think about it too long or we might change our mind! They gave us a pretty short deadline!
The council needs to be in a creative problem-solving mode of determining how to take advantage of the State Fair at the minimum cost to the taxpayers. A pause of several weeks to firm up details before council action is welcomed. There does need to be a sense of urgency in seeking information and options, but final decisions should not be rushed into recklessly.
