MARQUETTE -- The Grain Place of rural Marquette is hosting a farm tour and summer seminar Saturday, July 12.
The Grain Place has been producing organic crops and foods since 1953. It is located just southeast of Marquette and north of Aurora on Nebraska Highway 14.
Guest speakers will be Steven Hoffman, executive director of The Organic Center in Foster, R.I., and Bob Quinn, an organic farmer in Big Sandy, Mont.
The day begins with registration at 8 a.m. The walking farm tour is set for 8:30 a.m., and the plant tour will begin at 10:30 a.m.
After the noon lunch catered by Creative Cuisine, Hoffman and Quinn will each give one-hour presentations. At 3:30 p.m., Charles Francis and Liz Sarno will discuss University of Nebraska-Lincoln programs and research. The day will conclude at 4 p.m.
The meal costs $13. Reservations are requested by July 8.
