Running a stop sign resulted in a wild ride for two Grand Island teens Wednesday afternoon.
No one was seriously injured when Lindsey Kober, 18, failed to come to a complete stop at a stop sign at Ramada Road and Highway 34, said Grand Island police officer Cory Fredericksen.
Kober "tapped the brakes" in the late 1990s model Chevrolet Suburban before crossing the highway toward the mobile home park on DeAnn Road, Fredericksen said.
The Suburban was broadsided by a Southern Power truck driven by David Behle of Grand Island. The truck was going 45 to 50 mph when the collision occurred, Fredericksen said.
The truck came to rest on a nearby gravel road while the Suburban went through the ditch, through a chain link fence, and up a city utility pole guide wire before hitting a trailer, Fredericksen said.
The wooden exterior of the home was buckled and the Suburban's front bumper was about eight feet in the air when the vehicle stopped, he said.
A woman was in the trailer at the time of the accident but wasn't injured, he said.
"She popped out the front door pretty quick," he said.
Behle was wearing a seat belt and the air bags in the truck deployed. Neither Kober nor her passenger, Adriana Reyes, 19, were wearing seat belts, Fredericksen said.
All three people were taken to St. Francis Medical Center, where they were treated Wednesday and released, according to the hospital's marketing department.
Fredericksen was a witness to the accident. He had been trying to locate the Suburban after it was seen speeding on South Locust. He was about 75 to 100 yards behind the Suburban on Ramada Road when the accident occurred.
