A woman was struck in the face by an unidentified man as she jogged in the 4000 block of Canon Road early Friday morning.
Grand Island police Capt. Robert Falldorf said the police report on the attack hadn't been completed Friday afternoon, so he didn't have the woman's name or age. He also didn't know if the woman was injured in the attack.
Falldorf believed the woman was jogging on the hike-and-bike trail before 6 a.m. when a man she didn't know ran up to her, hit her in the face and ran away.
"She said she didn't think she could identify him, but we'll see," Falldorf said.
The call, which came in at 5:57 a.m. Friday, was handled by a night shift officer who got off duty at 7, he said.
The incident remains under investigation and more information will likely be available Monday, he said.
No arrests had been made as of Friday and police had no suspects.
Falldorf said it is unusual for a jogger to be attacked in Grand Island. Regardless of that fact, he cautioned hike-and-bike trail users to be aware of their surroundings, especially when using the trail alone.
