A Grand Island man has been sentenced in U.S. District Court to two years in prison for aggravated identity theft.
Rolando Pedro-Juan, 32, got a job at JBS Swift & Co., in Grand Island using the name Julio Santiago, according to a press release from U.S. Attorney Joe Stecher.
The release also gave the following information:
Pedro-Juan used a false and fraudulent social security card, and a Missouri identification card to obtain the job.
He was later arrested in Grand Island and convicted of driving under the influence of alcohol. He used the name Santiago throughout the prosecution and conviction.
When the true Julio Santiago tried to get a driver's license in another state he was refused on the grounds that he had a Nebraska DUI conviction. Immigration authorities were then notified of the situation and contacted Pedro-Juan, who admitted to his true name. He also admitted to being a Guatemalan citizen and to unlawfully entering the U.S.
He was indicted by a federal grand jury in January and pleaded guilty in March.
