BROKEN BOW —

A Broken Bow man was arrested Tuesday night after his neighbor was hospitalized with a gunshot wound.

Rick Arellano, 30, was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney with a torso wound Tuesday night, according to Deb McCaslin, Custer County's public information officer. He was out of surgery there this morning, but his condition was unknown.

Winfield S. Copley III, 28, was arrested Tuesday night and was in Custer County Jail this afternoon.

No charges have been filed, McCaslin said. She said she expects them to be filed Thursday.

The shooting was reported at 9:54 p.m. in an apartment building on South G Street in Broken Bow, where both men live.

Police had responded to a report of a disturbance in that building earlier Tuesday evening, McCaslin said.

Broken Bow police, the Custer County Sheriff's Department and the Nebraska State Patrol are investigating the incident, according to Custer County Attorney Tami Schendt.
