CAIRO —

An autopsy is scheduled for the body of a man found near Cairo on Tuesday afternoon, but foul play isn't suspected in the death.

Hall County Chief Deputy Sheriff Chris Rea said the 59-year-old white man from north of St. Paul has been identified by investigators. However, the man's name wasn't released Tuesday, pending notification of his relatives.

The cause of the man's death hadn't been determined Tuesday afternoon, and the case remained under investigation, Rea said.

The body was discovered on Loup River Road, a minimum-maintenance road east of 90th Road, just after 2 p.m. Tuesday, said Rea, who added that a passerby made the discovery.

Loup River Road is often used as a shortcut between 90th and 80th roads. The location is near the Hall/Howard County line.

Authorities believe the man was reported missing  Saturday. No one was available in the Howard County Sheriff's Department on Tuesday afternoon to comment on the missing person's case.

The Nebraska State Patrol and a Grand Island ambulance also responded to the scene.
