The people involved in a Sunday night fight on First Street were intoxicated, according to Grand Island police.
Officers were called to 2512 W. First St. around 7:14 p.m. Sunday about a fight in the front yard there, said officer Adam Paitz.
As officers arrived, they witnessed three men kicking and hitting a fourth man who was lying on the ground, Paitz said.
Jose J. Melendez, 31, of 2516 W. First St.; Roberto A. Magallon Jr., also known as Roberto Magallen, 32, of 2511 W. Second St.; and Gabriel Contreras, 26, of 111 Lakeview Circle Apt. 14, were all arrested. Melendez and Magallon were each charged Monday with third-degree assault and resisting arrest, which are both misdemeanors.
Contreras was charged with misdemeanor third-degree assault. He was released on a 10 percent of $5,000 bond before appearing in court. He is scheduled to return to county court at 2 p.m. May 28.
Melendez and Magallon were released on their own recognizance and were both ordered to stay away from the victim, Javier Tremillo. Their trials are scheduled for 9 a.m. July 28.
The fight witnessed by officers was sparked by an argument involving Tremillo's brother, Jesus, who lives at 2512 W. First St. Several people are being referred to the Hall County attorney's office for the first fight, Paitz said.
Javier Tremillo suffered cuts as the result of the fight and was transported to St. Francis Medical Center, Sgt. Jim Duering said Sunday.
Melendez, Magallon and Contreras were at Melendez's house for a cookout, Paitz said. Several other people, including girlfriends and neighbors, were on the scene when officers arrived, he said.
Paitz wouldn't elaborate on the nature of either fight.
