Kramer’s Wrecker Service was the big winner in this year’s Nebraska State Fair hay bale decorating contest.
“This year saw a total of 24 decorated hay bales with 15 throughout the Grand Island community and nine decorated bales on the fairgrounds,” Facilities Director Jaime Parr said.
The winners were chosen by a group of community volunteers with voting for a People’s Choice Award conducted on Facebook. This year’s winners:
- First place: Kramer’s Wrecker Service
- Second place: Home Federal Bank
- Third place: Tom Dinsdale Chevrolet
Kramer’s Wrecker Service also won the People’s Choice Award.
“The creativity of local businesses is showcased with this event, and it shows a lot of community pride in the Nebraska State Fair,” Parr said.
“When you consider that each entity starts off with round hay bales and uses it as part of their individual creativity, it’s amazing what these folks come up with.”
The hay bales are donated by Lazy K Ranch, MRL Crane and Mile Lilenthal.
“Our hay bales will be recycled after the fair and be reused as cattle feed,” Parr said. “This is particularly important with this year’s drought but important every year. The Nebraska State Fair does everything possible to reduce, reuse and recycle.”
The Nebraska State Fair runs through Labor Day at Fonner Park in Grand Island.
