A Grand Island man charged with three felonies and a misdemeanor after making threats at a local park and having the gun thrown onto an iced-over lake has been bound over to Hall County District Court.
Alejandro Renteria, also known as Alex Renteria, 23, of 520 O'Neill Circle, agreed to waive his preliminary hearing in Hall County Court in exchange for pleading either guilty or no contest to felony tampering with physical evidence. As part of the plea agreement, charges of terroristic threats, using a pistol to commit a felony and carrying a concealed weapon will be dismissed for the March 8 incident.
Renteria was charged after officers received a report that he threatened a 19-year-old man around 5:45 p.m. at the skate park in Pier Park, police said.
As the officers tried to track Renteria down, a friend, Luis Jaime, threw the gun into Pier Park Lake. The .22 caliber Ruger landed on the ice in the lake and officers were able to retrieve it, police said.
Jaime, 18, of 210 N. Piper No. 9, was charged with carrying a concealed tire iron, obstructing a police officer and assault by menacing threat, which are all misdemeanors. He is also charged with possession of less than an ounce of marijuana, which is an infraction.
His trial is scheduled for June 24.
Renteria's arraignment in district court is scheduled for 9 a.m. June 10.
