Grand Island student completes level 3 of astronaut training

HUTCHINSON, Kan. -- Brett Brokaw of Grand Island recently graduated from Level 3 of the Future Astronaut Training Program a the Kansas Cosmosphere and Space Center in Hutchinson, Kan.

Brokaw is a freshman at Grand Island Central Catholic and the son of Scott and Barb Brokaw.

The week-long astronaut camp, for students entering grades seven to 10, emphasizes teamwork, leadership and problem solving. Level 3 campers spend two days at the Cosmosphere, then travel to Johnson Space Center in Houston for further training. 

The campers' training at the Cosmosphere culminates in an advanced space shuttle mission aboard the Cosmosphere's space shuttle simulator, the Falcon III.



Area students attend Career Day at UNMC

OMAHA -- The University of Nebraska Medical Center Student Association for Rural Health, made up of students from rural areas studying at UNMC, held its 12th annual Career Day on Sept. 16. 

The event is also sponsored by the Student Association for Rural Health, the Rural Health Education Network and the Nebraska Area Health Education Center program. It introduced students with an interest in health careers to the multitude of professions available in the health sciences. 

This year 323 participants from 49 schools in 33 Nebraska counties learned about opportunities in the health professions. The students attended three 35-minute interactive sessions of their choosing with various health professionals.
