CCC-Columbus announces dance team members
COLUMBUS — Sixteen women have been selected as members of the 2008-09 Central Community College-Columbus Dance Team.
The Raider Dance Team performs at CCC-Columbus Raiders home volleyball and basketball games and selected community events during the academic year. Scholarships are available to qualified members of the dance team.
Dance team members from Central Nebraska are: Kelly Haase of Columbus, a graduate of Cedar Rapids High School; Ashley Papst of Farwell, a graduate of St. Paul High School; Lynndsi Strong of Grand Island, a graduate of Grand Island Senior High School; Alicia Karel and Katie Stenzel of Monroe, graduates of Twin River High School; Stephanie Dubas of Palmer, a graduate of Fullerton High School; and Jennyfer McCune of Stromsburg, a graduate of Cross County High School.
Activities
Blake Nicole Pfeifer of Tallahassee, Fla., has been selected as a member of the Florida State Seminoles varsity cheerleading team. She was one of 20 girls chosen for the squad out of a pool of more than 200 who competed for a spot. A graduate of Lincoln High School in Tallahassee, she will be a freshman at Florida State, majoring in exercise science. She is the daughter of Brian and Susan (Hellbusch) Pfeifer of Tallahassee; the granddaughter of George and Jean Pfeifer of Spalding, Mike and Patti Applegate of Columbus and Darrell Hellbusch of Fullerton; and the great-granddaughter of Vera Hellbusch of Fullerton, Ethel Rother of Wolbach, Donna Applegate of Columbus and Wayne and Patricia Baker of Ogden, Utah.
Graduates
Three Central Nebraska students were among more than 530 students who received degrees on Aug. 15 during the summer University of Nebraska at Omaha commencement ceremony. Receiving degrees were Casie Olsen, Grand Island, specialist in education; Andrew Rinaldi, Grand Island, master of science; and Marcus Augustin, Osceola, bachelor of science in business administration, magna cum laude.
Lindie Schreiner and Melisa Ritchie, both of Grand Island, were among 12 physical therapist assistant students at Northeast Community College in Norfolk honored at a special graduation ceremony for completing their course of study.
Scholarships
Daniel Leiser and Brandi Harders, both of Grand Island, have been awarded $1,000 Holling Memorial Scholarships at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources. Leiser, a Northwest High School graduate and son of William and Sandy Leiser, is a sophomore majoring in mechanized systems management. Harders, a Northwest High School graduate and daughter of Michael and Angela Harders, is a senior majoring in agribusiness.
