Wesleyan announces academic honors list

LINCOLN -- Nebraska Wesleyan University has announced its academic honors list for the spring semester.

A student must have a minimum grade point average of 3.75 (on a 4.00 scale) for 12 or more hours of course work to qualify for the honors list.

Central Nebraska students on the honors list:

Lynsey Crosby and Kimberly Salber of Albion; NaTosha Vose of Ansley; Chelsea Beshaler of Arnold; Hope Hunnicutt, Evan Janzen, Darren Jarosik, Kelley Lehmer, Lisa McHargue, Kyle Shaffer, Derek Werner and Jarryd Widhalm of Aurora;

Area students named to UNMC College  of Nursing dean's list

Fourteen Central Nebraska students enrolled in the University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Nursing program were named to the dean's list following the 2008 spring semester.

To qualify, students must be enrolled in at least 12 credit hours and have a grade point average of 3.5 or above.

Central Nebraska students who made the dean's list are:

UNMC Colleg of Nursing (Omaha): Richelle Sorensen of Burwell; and  Andrea Carlson and Rachel Lessor of Hastings.

UNMC College of Nursing Lincoln Division: Chad Bredthauer of Aurora; Susan O'Grady of Burwell; Amy Pandorf and Laura-Leigh Wilcher of Callaway; and Lacey Gee of Grand Island.

UNMC College of Nursing Kearney Division: Rachel Christensen of Arcadia; Sara Minnick of Broken Bow; Kaleigh Cook and Amanda Ruhs of Grand Island; Emily South of Hastings; and Lisa Witt of Juniata.



Students receive cooperative scholarships

Three Central Nebraska students are recipients of scholarships offered by the Nebraska Cooperative Council Education Foundation.

Their scholarships are among eight totaling $6,000 for the 2008-09 academic year awarded to students at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL) College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources, the Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture at Curtis and Chadron State College.

Recipients of $800 scholarships at UNL include:

n Andy Hohwieler, son of George and Nancy Hohwieler of Aurora, who will be a freshman majoring in agribusiness/ag economics. His father works for the Aurora Co-op Elevator Co.

n Derek Jagels, son of Mark and Suzanne Jagels of Davenport, who will be a junior majoring in ag economics. The Jagelses are members of the Aurora Co-op Elevator Co.

n Kalli Estes, daughter of Larry and Karla Estes of Anselmo, who will be a junior majoring in agribusiness. The Esteses are members of All Points Co-op in Gothenburg and Farmers Co-op Grain Co. in Merna.

To be eligible for the scholarships, students must be sons or daughters of a parent or legal guardian who has been an active member, director or employee for at least the prior three years of a cooperative that has been a member in good standing of the council for at least five years.



Graduates

Anayansi V. Milby of Grand Island has earned a bachelor of science degree from Excelsior College in Albany, N.Y.

Two students from Hastings were among the more than 750 students who were eligible to receive degrees when Rockhurst University held its 88th annual commencement on May 17 at the Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City, Mo. Joseph Krienert graduated summa cum laude with a bachelor of science in business administration; and Benjamin Skoch earned a bachelor of science degree in biology.

William Goble, formerly of Grand Island, and Kirsten Buck Goble, of Ankeny, Iowa, recently received doctor of osteopathic medicine degrees during the 108th annual commencement ceremonies for the Des Moines University College of Osteopathic Medicine on May 24. Goble will begin a general surgery residency program and Buck Goblewill begin a family practice residency program at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa. 



Academic honors

Four Central Nebraska students have earned a place on the dean's list for the spring 2008 semester at Rockhurst University in Kansas City, Mo. They are Jaycie Schmidt of Doniphan and Kimberly Barth, Joseph Krienert and Benjamin Skoch, all of Hastings. The dean's list recognizes students who have achieved a grade-point average of 3.5 or above.

Students from Grand Island and Hastings have been named to the spring dean's list at Cornell College in Mount Vernon, Iowa. They are  Andrew Decker, junior, honors, son of Larry and Kathryn Decker, Grand Island; and Dale Callahan, sophomore, high honors, son of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Callahan, Hastings. A grade point average of at least 3.6 on a 4.0 scale is required. "Highest honors" are granted to students with 4.0 averages; "high honors" are awarded to students with 3.8 to 3.99 averages; and "honors" include grade point averages of 3.6 to 3.79.

Adriane Ogden of Grand Island was among students named to Nebraska Wesleyan University's Advantage Program academic honors list for the spring semester. The Advantage Program provides nontraditional students the opportunity to earn a college degree while pursuing a career. Advantage Program students must have a minimum grade point average of 3.75 on a 4.00 scale.

 Three Central Nebraska students have been named to the dean's list at the University of South Dakota in Vermilliona for the 2008 spring semester . Among those making the list were Jennifer L. Goforth of Grand Island, Eric D. Eckhardt of Hastings and Laura R. Schmitz of Petersburg. Students earn dean's list distinction by achieving a GPA of at least 3.5 while maintaining a course load of 12 or more credit hours with no incomplete or failing grades.
