Garrels named to national Elks committee

GRAND ISLAND —

Dennis Garrels of Grand Island has been appointed to the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks' National Public Relations Committee.

In this position, Garrels, a past state president, will serve the national governing body of Elks, known as the Grand Lodge, by training the public relations chairmen of the state Elks associations, advising local Elks lodges and state associations about Grand Lodge activities and programs and promoting the agenda and accomplishments of the order.

Garrels' other responsibilities will include working with national and local media as well as the national officers and committee members of the BPO Elks.

Garrels, of Grand Island Lodge 604, was appointed by Elks National President Paul Helsel at the Elks' 144th national convention in Anaheim, Calif.
