The Grand Island Public Library's Teen Book Club is taking part in the One Book One Nebraska Teen Read, "The Book Thief" by Marcus Zusak, a New York Times No. 1 best-seller.
The library has limited copies of the book available for readers ages 11 to 18 to borrow. "The Book Thief" is about the Holocaust and trying to make sense of the horrors of World War II. The book relates the story of Liesel, a young German girl whose book-stealing and storytelling talents help sustain her family and the Jewish man they are hiding, as well as their neighbors.
Teens who would like to borrow a copy of the book and take part in the Teen Book Club can contact Celine at 385-5333 or cs@gi.lib.ne.us. The book will be discussed at 3 p.m. Tuesday, June 3, at the library.
Teens need to return the borrowed copy of the book by Tuesday, June 4. Teens are encouraged to return the book early so other teens will also have a chance to read it. The traveling books are on loan from Kearney's Meridian Library System.
