GRAND ISLAND —

Local and area law enforcement have scheduled overtime for traffic enforcement from Monday through June 1.

The enforcement is part of "Click It or Ticket," a national safety belt and child restraint mobilization.

The GIPD has received a grant for $13,688 from the Nebraska Office of Highway Safety for 336 hours, according to a press release from the Police Department.

The Sheriff's Department has seven deputies scheduled to work 230 hours of overtime, to be paid for with a grant from Highway Safety, according to a release from the department.

The Hastings Police Department and Buffalo County Sheriff's Departments will also do saturation patrols and will target traffic violations using grants from Highway Safety.

In 2007, 159 of 227 fatally injured passenger vehicle occupants in Nebraska weren't wearing safety belts, according to the GIPD release.
