GRAND ISLAND —

Mike Gloor took 20 out of 22 precincts in the District 35 legislative race on Tuesday.

Precinct-by-precinct results were released Friday by the Hall County election commissioner's office.

Gloor, who is St. Francis Medical Center president and chief executive officer, and Grand Island attorney Gregg Neuhaus are vying for the seat currently held by state Sen. Ray Aguilar. Aguilar is prevented from seeking another term due to term limits.

Because there are only two candidates in the race, both automatically advanced to the Nov. 4 general election. However, both names were printed on the primary ballot because state law requires that state legislative candidate names be printed on primary ballots even when an elimination race isn't occurring.

The District 35 primary served as a kind of litmus test for the two advancing candidates to determine where their support was and what areas of the district may need more campaign attention prior to the general election.

Gloor's support covered all of Grand Island's core.

The two precincts that favored Neuhaus were in eastern Grand Island -- Precincts 1 and 4, both located north of Highway 30.

Neuhaus' wins in those two precincts were slim. He won by just two votes in Precinct 1 and by 18 votes in Precinct 4.

A total of 4,785 votes, including 11 write-in votes, were cast in the District 35 election.

Neuhaus said on election night that he wasn't surprised by Gloor's win, but he expects different results in the fall.

Gloor credited his campaign volunteers with his success. Those volunteers helped with canvassing, signs, phone calls and fundraising.
