GRAND ISLAND —

Nobody can deny the giving attitude that permeates Grand Island and Central Nebraska. The area's civic and church groups consistently give of their time and  talents to assist others who may not be able to help themselves. Nobody asks questions, the groups simply see a need and rush to answer the call for help.

One group stands out to us for its generosity and compassion. The Wednesday Group is a collection of 13 developmentally disabled adults who disregard their own issues and look for a way to impact the community. Along the way, they hope to develop a better relationship with the community. All members are clients of the Mid-Nebraska Individual Services. They also have the assistance of two staffers from MNIS.

The Wednesday Group is having a fundraiser to help the Humane Society this Sunday at Ryder Park. They will have a softball game with the Fire Dept. at 1:00 and with the Police Department at 2:30. There will also be a barbecue lunch kids games, a dance with the Revival Band from Dannebrog at 3:00 and a dunk tank with Grand Island celebrities throughout the afternoon. The Humane Society will get all of the proceeds, but we hope the MNIS Wednesday Group will get all of the love.

The Wednesday Group could be excused for not looking outward to  work on the needs  of others. These folks certainly have many of their own issues to focus on as most of them have not been dealt a fair hand of cards in the game of life. But they eagerly seek opportunities to help others. They have spent considerable time selflessly helping the Red Cross and other groups while not dwelling on their  own situations. A hearty Saturday Salute goes to the Wednesday Group.

We hope readers can stop by Ryder Park tomorrow afternoon and give the Wednesday Group a hand in helping the Humane Society.
