GRAND ISLAND —

Golden Living Center-Grand Island Lakeview has made a $1,000 donation to the Alzheimer's Association Grand Island Memory Walk.

Joyce Cantrell, executive director of Golden Living Center, presented a $1,000 check to Alexandra Dillon of the Alzheimer's Association Great Plains Chapter.

"Through our Golden Living Community Support Initiative grant, we are proud to support the Alzheimer's Association Grand Island Memory Walk," Cantrell said.

Golden Living Center recently opened a 16-bed Alzheimer's care unit and a 12-bed advanced Alzheimer's care unit.

"Over 33,000 people with Alzheimer's disease live in Nebraska, and that number is expected to grow to 37,000 by 2010," said Alexandra Dillon, Alzheimer's Association resource coordinator.

The Grand Island Memory Walk is part of the Alzheimer's Association's national Memory Walk fundraising event. The Grand Island Memory Walk will begin at 6 p.m. Aug. 28 at Northwest High School. To participate, form a team or donate, call Nicole Campbell of Country House Residence at 381-1988.
