HASTINGS -- Authorities have released the names of three people killed in a two-vehicle accident Thursday morning near Hastings.
Manuela Montanez, 40, and Abel Aldava, 40, both of rural Hastings, and Lloyd "Jim" Hohlen, 64, of Juniata died in the accident about a mile west of Hastings, said Dan Furman, Adams County sheriff's deputy.
Slick, wet roads contributed to the accident, which occurred at about 5:24 a.m. Thursday one-half mile west of Marian Road on Highway 6, he said.
Montanez was driving a 1997 Plymouth van east on Highway 6 when she apparently lost control. The van crossed into the westbound lane and collided with a 1994 Chevrolet pickup driven west on the highway by Hohlen. The pickup struck the passenger side of the van, Furman said.
Aldava was a passenger in the van, Furman said.
It doesn't appear that seat belts were in use at the time of the accident. A mix of rain and snow was falling when the crash occurred, he said.
The Sheriff's Department was assisted by the Nebraska State Patrol, Hastings Police Department, Hastings Fire Department and Rural/Metro Ambulance Service.
