Published: Monday, December 7, 2009 3:14 PM CST
Four separate traffic stops along Interstate 80 and Highway 30 between North Platte to Lincoln this weekend led to the seizure of 280 pounds of marijuana and nearly 29 grams of cocaine.

A Saturday traffic stop for speeding on Highway 30 on the west edge of Central City led to the cocaine seizure, according to a press release from the Nebraska State Patrol.

The release gave the following information:

Shortly before 9 p.m., a trooper stopped an eastbound 1998 Dodge minivan. The odor of drugs was detected, and a search led to the seizure of 28.9 grams of cocaine. The drugs were found in a cooler between the front seats.

The driver, Rogelio Rodriguez, 28, and a passenger, Rodney Sanchez, 29, both of Columbus, were taken to the Merrick County Jail for possession of cocaine with intent to deliver.

Just after 3 p.m. Saturday, a trooper in North Platte stopped an eastbound 2004 Ford F-250 pickup for speeding on Interstate 80. The trooper was given consent to search the vehicle and found 241 pounds of marijuana wrapped in 24 individual packages in an external diesel fuel tank in the back of the pickup.

A passenger in the pickup, Robert Vasquez, 37, of Tucson, Ariz., was arrested for possession of marijuana with intent to deliver. The driver wasn't cited.

A traffic stop around 8:30 a.m. Saturday on I-80 near Lincoln led to the seizure of 20 pounds of marijuana. A trooper stopped an eastbound 2009 Toyota for following too closely. A patrol canine indicated the odor of marijuana coming from the rear of the vehicle. Marijuana was found in a suitcase in the trunk.

The driver, Nicholas Brakes, 36, of St. Cloud, Minn., was arrested for possession of marijuana with intent to deliver.

On Friday around 10:30 p.m., a trooper stopped an eastbound 2009 Kia sport utility vehicle for speeding near the Kearney I-80 interchange. The trooper smelled drugs and found 18.9 pounds of marijuana wrapped in several bundles in the passenger compartment of the vehicle.

The driver of the vehicle, Kenyon Wofford, 37, of Snellville, Ga., and two passengers in the vehicle, Krystal Sears, 24, Detroit, and Marsh Spears, 34, West Bloomfield, Mich., were each arrested for possession of marijuana with intent to deliver.
